My name is Evelien, I study Personnel and Labor at the Hogeschool Fontys. Last winter I was actively searching for an internship abroad. This proved to be harder than I expected. I had to choose in which country I would like to do an internship and what kind of internship I was looking for. I applied for a few companies and it quickly became clear that not every company would give a reaction.
I got an email from a friend that YoungProfs Curacao was looking for a trainee. Immediately I applied for the vacancy, and I had been accepted.
From this moment on the real work started. Everything needed to be arranged because I was flying to Curacao a few months later. I can honestly say that YoungProfs was assisting me very well and gave a clear indication of all the paperwork I had to arrange.
When I arrived on Curacao an employee from YoungProfs was already waiting for me and brought me to my new home. Along the way I already saw a lot of the island and the employee of YoungProfs explained a lot about the culture, trips and tours, which was very useful to me. When we arrived at the house I had a warm welcome from my housemates.
On my first day I was brought to my internship, it was like coming home and the office had a nice atmosphere. My duties were mostly to recruit en select new trainees for Curacao and search internships and arrange internships for the young professionals. I had contact with students, companies and arranged matters such as immigration. My internship was very varied and I got a lot of freedom and responsibility. For this reason it was a great experience with a lot of challenges.
Now, six months later, I am done with my internship and there are many interns placed and arrived on Curacao. It was a great time, I lived, worked and partied on the island. I had really nice colleagues, met a lot of new people, friendly housemates and of course nice weather. For me it is truly a memorable time. Such a time I would highly recommend to everyone. I am YoungProfs really grateful and I had the time of my life.
